John Bauer was a Swedish illustrator of mythology, folklore and fairy tales. His muted watercolors illustrated Swedish folklore and fairy tales highlighting the Nordic legends of trolls. This painting is of “Leap the Elk” carrying Princess Tuvstarr out of the forest.
