John Bauer was a Swedish illustrator of mythology, folklore and fairy tales. His muted watercolors illustrated Swedish folklore and fairy tales highlighting the Nordic legends of trolls. This painting of a boy confronting a troll is from the story “The Boy Who Was Never Afraid”.
